Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line charts below illustrate the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 to 2019. In the percentage of householder chart their are three lines bold one represents washing machine and simple line indecate refigerator and doted line shows vacuum cleaner.while in second chart their is only one line that represent hours per week.

In the number of housework per week, the highest number of hours spent were 50 in 1920 and kept delining and the lowest hours spent were in 2019 that 10 hours per week. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by describing the main features of the line graphs. However, the interpretation of the data contains several inaccuracies and confusion regarding the trends and figures. For instance, the student states that the refrigerator ownership in 1920 was zero when the data shows 2%, and claims the washing machine reached 65% in 2000 (whereas the graph shows 70%). Additionally, the overview attempts to summarise the data, but the description of line styles in the introduction is overly conversational and inaccurate ("simple line indecate refigerator and doted line shows vacuum cleaner"). While some key trends such as the decrease in housework hours are identified, the response lacks precision in reporting the data and misses several important comparative features, placing it at a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical layout with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by weak cohesive devices and poor referencing. Phrases like "In the percentages of household chart the refigerator cleaning in 1920 were zero" awkwardly combine unrelated concepts, and transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. Pronoun referencing and linking words are either missing or inaccurate, causing the reader to struggle with the flow of information, which is characteristic of a Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'householder', 'indecate', 'refigerator', 'doted', 'delining', 'maching', 'visevers', 'refrigenator'). The student attempts some task-specific vocabulary related to charts and appliances, but control is poor. Words are often misused or misspelled, such as 'delined' instead of 'declined' or 'visevers' instead of 'vice versa'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for conveying simple ideas, but noticeable errors cause difficulty and strain for the reader, aligning with a Band 4.5 or 5.0 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student uses a mix of simple and attempting complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("the highest number of hours spent were 50", "the washing maching were only able to reached"), missing prepositions, and run-on sentences with comma splices ("In the number of housework per week, the highest number of hours spent were 50 in 1920 and kept delining and the lowest hours spent were in 2019 that 10 hours per week"). Punctuation is often neglected, and capitalization rules are frequently ignored. These errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at a Band 4.0.
