Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting the main features of appliance ownership and housework hours between 1920 and 2019. An overall trend is provided in the second paragraph, and specific data points are cited, such as appliance ownership starting at lower percentages and reaching 100% or high levels by 2019, alongside the drop in housework hours from 50 to 11. However, there are some inaccuracies in data interpretation—for instance, stating that the refrigerator started at '0%' (it was 2%) and misrepresenting the refrigerator's trajectory to 2000. Furthermore, the description of appliance trends in 1980 ('about 60 to 70% increase') is confusingly phrased. The overview is somewhat basic. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but with mechanical reporting and some data misreading.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing the charts. There is an attempt at overall progression, with cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'On the other side', 'In 1920', and 'In addition' used to structure the text. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences in the third paragraph run together with comma splices ('in 1920, the percentage of washing machine was 40% adn of vacuum cleaner was 30% till 1980, there was seen...'), which disrupts the flow and makes the logical relationships between ideas harder to follow. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better control.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'ownership', 'appliances', 'stable', and 'decline'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('illsutrate', 'spend' instead of 'spent', 'dramatical', 'adn', 'refrigartor', 'houshold') and awkward word choices ('time spend for doing house task', 'amount of electrical items like washing machine... is increased'). Word formation issues also appear, such as using 'fall' instead of 'fell' or 'falling'. While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent lexical and spelling errors place the response firmly in the band 5 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including tense confusion ('how... ownership... is changed', 'hours spend... are fall dramatically', 'it remain same'), subject-verb agreement issues ('number of hours spend... are fall'), and severe run-on sentences with comma splices. For example, 'In the use of refrigartor among people was same as these two appliances in 1920, it was 0% and in 2000 it goes up to 100% and untill 2019 it remain same at 100%' contains multiple clauses strung together incorrectly. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader.
