Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response fails to reach the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at 137 words. Regarding content, the student attempts to summarise the main features, mentioning trends for the fridge, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, and hours of housework. However, the overview is extremely weak and written entirely in capital letters, stating that appliance ownership is increasing and hours fell, but lacking sufficient development. Furthermore, some data descriptions are inaccurate; for example, stating that the number of hours remained constant from 1960 to 2019 ignores the continued decline from 15 to 11 hours. Due to the under-length penalty and underdeveloped data selection, the task achievement is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organised into paragraphs, using basic transition markers such as 'OVERALL', 'ON THE ONE HAND', and 'ON THE OTHER HAND'. However, the logical progression is flawed due to abrupt transitions, punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods, such as 'OVERALL,IT IS APPARENT'), and poor sentence boundary control. Paragraphing is attempted, but cohesion is mechanical and repetitive. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure lacks smooth flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several awkward collocations and word choices such as 'RATE OF TIME', 'TAKE SMALL BEND', and 'FLOW CONSTANT'. There are also capitalization issues since the entire response is written in uppercase letters. The student attempts some less common terms like 'stagnant' and 'marginaly', but spelling errors ('marginaly') and inappropriate phrasing limit the lexical score to a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex constructions are heavily flawed and ungrammatical, such as 'THEN,KEEP THE SAME MOREOVER,ALL APPLIANCES IS INCREASING FORM'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('appliances is increasing'), missing articles, and widespread punctuation errors. The complete lack of lowercase letters further detracts from the mechanical accuracy.
