Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of both the appliance ownership chart and the housework hours chart, providing some figures such as 40% for washing machines in 1920 and 50 hours for housework. However, there are notable inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the data. For instance, the text claims that in 1920 washing machines had the highest proportion at 40%, whereas refrigerators were only 2% and vacuum cleaners 30%, but it misses key overarching trends like the universal adoption of refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000. Additionally, the phrase 'maximum hours worked by employees' confuses housework with employment. The overview at the end is confused and grammatically flawed. Therefore, the response addresses the task only partially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body details, and an overall summary. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and phrasing, such as 'Turning towards the rest of details' and 'Additionaly, the households of washing machines observe in fluctuations'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is disjointed, leading to a choppy reading experience that fits the Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'fluctuations of ownership', 'calibrated in percentage and numbers', and referring to appliance ownership as 'households of washing machines'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'fluctuations', but misuse prevents clear communication in several places. Spelling is generally acceptable, but overall lexical control is limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low throughout the text. Frequent errors include missing articles ('highest proportion of ownership of washing machine'), incorrect prepositions ('spend on doing housework', 'during same year'), and severe structural awkwardness ('it may infer that', 'the ratio of households are vacuum cleaner'). Punctuation errors are also present, such as spaces before commas and periods. These errors frequently cause strain for the reader.
