Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the appliance ownership chart and the housework hours chart. An effective overview is provided in the second paragraph, capturing the overall upward trend in appliance ownership and the dramatic decline in housework hours. Key data points are cited, such as the refrigerator starting at zero percent and reaching 100 percent by 1980, and the washing machine starting at 40 percent and finishing at 75 percent. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies; for instance, the text states the washing machine reached 70 percent by 2019 (whereas the gridline points to 75 percent), and the final housework hours are stated as 10 (the graph shows 11). Overall, the task is well addressed with clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, a body paragraph detailing appliance ownership, and a final paragraph detailing housework hours. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different thematic areas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'All the electrical appliances steadily increased', and 'where as' are employed to connect ideas, though some transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical or are impacted by punctuation errors. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall arrangement provides a coherent overview of the visual data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, attempting functional terms such as 'upward trajectory', 'drastically increased', and 'dramatic decline'. However, there are several spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'appliences', 'begining', 'upto', 'initally', 'steedily', 'incresed', 'yaer', and 'drascticto'. Despite these lexical errors and typos, the meaning remains clear and communication is not impeded. To reach a higher band, greater accuracy in spelling and more precise collocation are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The line graph illustrates the changing percentage...' and 'All the electrical appliances steadily increased over the year, but the use of a refrigerator stood at zero percent...'. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, notably missing commas in compound sentences, run-on structures (e.g., 'later on it drascticto decline and reached 10'), and incorrect verb forms ('drascticto'). While these errors are noticeable and lower the accuracy score, the student successfully constructs enough error-free simple clauses to maintain readability.
