The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The graph illustrates the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the average number of hours spent on households per week in one country from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, ownership of all appliances increased over the period, with refrigerators and vacuum cleaners being used by almost everyone by the end. In contrast, the amount of time spent on housework declined considerably.

In 1920, approximately 40% of households owned a washing machine, compared with around 30% that had a vacuum cleaner. Refrigerators were not used at the beginning of the period. Washing machine ownership rose to about 70% in 1960, before falling slightly in 1980 and then recovering slowly to reach approximately 70% by 2019. Meanwhile, refrigerator ownership increased sharply, reaching around 90% in 1960 and then being used by almost everyone by 1980.

Regarding housework, households spent approximately 50 hours per week on domestic chores in 1920. This figure fell to around 35 hours in 1940 and 20 hours in 1960. The decline subsequently became more gradual, reaching approximately 15 hours in 1980 and 2000.
