Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making comparisons between the three appliances and the hours of housework. An adequate overview is provided at the beginning, noting the overall increase in appliance ownership and decrease in housework hours. However, some data reporting contains inaccuracies or vague descriptions, such as stating that the vacuum cleaner 'initially increased and then a decline has been observed', which misreads the overall upward trend, and inaccurate tracking of the washing machine's trajectory. Despite these flaws, the main features are identified and contrasted, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and a body paragraph detailing appliance trends. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the text lacks a clear discussion of the housework hours in the body paragraphs, leaving it bundled into the overview. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inaccurately, such as 'On the other hand' and 'After then', which disrupts the logical flow of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression is disjointed. This matches the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting words and phrases like 'transfer of ownership', 'enhancement', and 'remains constant'. However, there are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'enhancement has been observed in the change of ownership' and 'A gradually decreased decline'. Word forms are also misused frequently, such as 'a sharp increased' instead of 'increase'. These lexical errors occasionally impede communication and restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and parts of speech, such as 'Rate of change in the ownership of washing machine shown' (missing article, incorrect verb tense) and 'after then a slight increased till 2019'. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with random capital letters like 'An enhancement' and 'Among them'. Because errors are frequent and sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar fits Band 5.0.
