Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both charts and making appropriate comparisons. The overall trend of increasing appliance ownership and decreasing housework hours is successfully identified. However, some data points are inaccurate or loosely described, such as stating that 'washing machine percentage is almost stable' when it actually rises from 40% in 1920 to 75% in 2019, or describing the hours of housework as '12 to 10 per week' from 1960 onwards when the graph shows a drop from 20 to 11. Despite these minor misreadings, the response provides a clear overview and covers the core information adequately, meeting the requirements for a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, moving to an overview, and splitting body details between appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward linking and repetitive transitions like 'To begin with households'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately (e.g., 'while percentage of washing machines was lower then others'). Reference words are occasionally vague or lack clear antecedents. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent structure, but cohesion features faults and mechanical usage, fitting a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms provided in the prompt such as 'households', 'electrical appliances', 'housework', and 'percentage'. There are several word choice and collocation errors, such as 'go rise' instead of 'rose', 'refrigerator percentage goes higher and stable at 100', and spelling/form slips like 'decline' instead of 'declined'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, but lacks flexibility or precision, justifying a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'spent during housework' instead of 'spent on housework', 'in 1920 to 2019' instead of 'from 1920 to 2019', and 'In 1920 number of hour per week was 50'. Complex structures are often faulty and awkward. While the meaning remains generally understandable, the frequency of grammatical errors places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
