Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making relevant comparisons across both charts. An appropriate overview is provided, highlighting the general upward trend in appliance ownership and the downward trend in housework hours. Key data points are accurately cited, such as the refrigerator moving from two percent in 1920 to full saturation by 1980, and housework dropping from fifty hours to around eleven. While the ideas are well selected and supported, there is a slight tendency to generalize certain trends without fully elaborating on every minor fluctuation, placing the response solidly within the expectations for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The report displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped sensibly, with the first body paragraph focusing on appliance ownership and the second addressing the number of hours spent on housework. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Regarding of electrical appliances' and 'In comparison'. However, referencing and transitional phrases can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'during the years, it started', which prevents the cohesion from being entirely flexible and smooth. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to data trends such as 'sharp increase', 'drastically', and 'remain stable'. However, there are notable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'hoursework' instead of housework, 'fall drastically overtime' instead of over time, and the slightly unidiomatic phrasing 'presented a slightly decrease' instead of 'showed a slight decrease'. These lexical errors and awkward word choices do not impede communication, but they restrict the response from achieving a higher rating, as the attempts at less common vocabulary lack consistent precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to structure sentences effectively when reporting trends. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as comma splices or preposition misuse like 'Regarding of electrical appliances', and verb tense slips such as 'it increase to around 75%' instead of 'increased'. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the intended comparisons. To improve further, the writer needs to ensure stricter consistency in verb agreements and past tense forms.
