Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by reporting the main trends shown in the charts, such as the increase in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the coverage is only partial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the student states that the refrigerator reached its peak in the year 2020 (whereas the chart ends in 2019) and misreads several specific data points and labels, referring to 'percentage of electrical hosusholds' and 'number of time per week'. While an overview is attempted at the very beginning of the response, it is fused awkwardly with the introduction and lacks clarity. The ideas remain limited and under-developed, preventing the response from achieving a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, dividing the introduction, appliance trends, and housework hours into separate paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the confusing integration of the overview and introductory sentences. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as the frequent use of 'meanwhile' and 'over a time'. Additionally, referencing and logical flow are sometimes disrupted by poor punctuation and run-on sentences, such as the lack of full stops or capitalisation between distinct thoughts. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better management to guide the reader smoothly through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'illustraion', 'hosusholds', 'spended', 'insreases', 'refrigater', 'touches', 'vacume', and 'gradully'. Word choice and collocations are also weak or unnatural, such as 'amount of spended duration' instead of 'time spent', and 'number of time' instead of 'amount of time'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'significantly increases' and 'dramatice decrease', these attempts are marred by inaccurate word forms and spelling mistakes that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses joined loosely by coordinating conjunctions or commas. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on structures like 'over the time the percentage of refrigater was significantly increases and it toches its peak...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreement, such as 'was significantly increases', 'this trend increase upto', and 'this trend decrases about more than 15 percent'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing terminal punctuation and incorrect spacing before commas, causing frequent interruptions to readability.
