Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by reporting the main features of both charts, such as the overall growth in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, some aspects are under-developed or contain inaccuracies. For instance, the statement that 'no families owned refrigerator in this years' overlooks the given starting figure of 2% in 1920, and the description of the trends in the second graph is slightly imprecise regarding specific years and figures. While an overview is present, the support for some details lacks precision, placing this response at the targeted band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for each chart. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitions like 'According to the graph' and 'After that' are overused, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous time reference in 'in this years'. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, but the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother and better managed to reach higher levels.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate the main points of the task, meeting the basic requirements. There are several lexical and word-choice errors, such as 'families owned electrical appliances' instead of 'households owning', 'people spend time in housework', and 'every households'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'proportion', 'significantly', and 'dramatically', but these attempts are accompanied by inaccuracies in word form and collocation, which prevent the lexical score from rising further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ('which grew significantly'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, articles, and pluralisation. Examples include 'The given both line charts', 'families owned' instead of 'households owned', 'decrease all over the year' instead of 'decreased over the years', and '1n 1920' with a number-letter substitution. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they rarely impede overall communication entirely.
