Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by mentioning some appliances and data points, but it struggles to present a clear and accurate overview. For instance, the student states that the use of refrigerators reached 100% in 1940, whereas the graph indicates this happened in 1980, and misreads several other data points such as the initial 1920 figures. Furthermore, the number of hours spent doing housework is entirely omitted from the report, meaning key features of the visual data are missed. The overview is repetitive and lacks a proper summary of main trends. Ideas are limited and under-developed, resulting in a minimal response that only partially covers the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The organization of the text is somewhat disjointed. While the student attempts to structure the response into paragraphs for different appliances, the progression of information lacks clarity. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the frequent, mechanical reliance on 'However' and 'Moreover' to start sentences, which does not always fit the logical relationship between the data points. Referencing is occasionally confusing, and paragraphing is irregular, with sentences starting without proper spacing or logical connection. Overall, the arrangement of information lacks clear progression, leading to a choppy and difficult reading experience.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing phrases like 'the use of' and 'gradually increased'. There are noticeable spelling errors, such as 'vaccum' instead of 'vacuum', and awkward word choices like 'excessive rise was seen'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with little flexibility or precision. While the meaning is occasionally communicated, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and simplistic phrasing restrict the response from achieving a higher level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and repetitive patterns. Attempts at more complex statements often result in grammatical errors, such as 'use of refrigerator remains same' (missing articles and tense consistency) and 'again increased in washing machine at 60%' (missing subjects and faulty prepositions). Frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles are present throughout the text, which can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader.
