Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially because it contains noticeable inaccuracies in reporting the data and cuts off abruptly at the end. While you attempt to provide an overview and summarize the main trends for both appliances and housework hours, some key features are misreported or incompletely developed. For instance, stating that refrigerator ownership started at 0 percent and that housework was 50 percent in 1920 with a sudden cut-off at '20 percent in 1' shows a failure to fully complete the summary. To move to a higher band, you need to ensure all main trends are accurately matched to the visual data and that the response is fully completed without trailing off mid-sentence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with paragraphing separating the introduction, overview, appliances, and housework hours, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, relying heavily on transitional markers like 'However' and 'On the other hand' rather than smooth logical flow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as linking appliances directly to percentages without precise subject tracking. To improve cohesion, you should work on varying your transition signals and organizing your supporting details in a more logically progressive manner so that the relationships between the data sets are crystal clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to attempt words like 'fluctuation', 'gradual increase', and 'sharp decline'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the response, such as writing 'doing households' instead of 'housework', 'changes of electrical appliances' instead of 'changes in appliance ownership', and 'electrical appliances as like washing machine'. Word forms are also strained in places. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices accurately reflect the graphical data without awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors that can cause some difficulty for the reader. There are persistent mistakes in articles, prepositions, and verb forms, such as missing articles ('number of hours of house work', 'refrigerator experienced'), incorrect prepositions ('over the year' instead of 'over the years', 'reached at'), and incomplete sentence structures as seen in the final sentence cutting off abruptly. Complex sentences are attempted but frequently faulty. To improve your grammar score, you need to diversify your sentence patterns while maintaining strict control over basic grammatical boundaries, avoiding incomplete clauses and ensuring correct prepositions and article use.
