Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main task by attempting to report on both the ownership of electrical appliances and the hours spent on housework between 1920 and 2019. However, the coverage is only partial and contains inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the writer states that the refrigerator started at '0 percent in 1920' (the chart shows around 2 percent) and later claims that housework hours dropped to '10 percent' instead of '10 hours per week'. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat confused, and the writing trails off abruptly at the end ('This significant decline in houswork expl'). To reach higher standards, the response needs to accurately report the given data without misinterpreting units of measurement, ensure all key trends are clearly articulated, and provide a fully completed conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation attempted through paragraphing, separating the introduction, an overview, and body details. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by abrupt transitions and the incomplete final sentence. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the awkward transitional phrase 'Particulary, accounting the percentage of households'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between data points. To improve cohesion, the writer should use clearer logical connectors, ensure each paragraph has a distinct and well-sequenced focus, and avoid disjointed or unfinished sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for conveying basic ideas about the trends. The writer attempts some less common items such as 'graphical representation', 'dominated', and 'undeniable raise', but these attempts are often marred by inappropriate word choice, collocation issues, or spelling mistakes, such as 'percenatage' and 'poeple'. Phrasing like 'lifting from 0 percent' and 'evident boost' lacks precision. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of precise vocabulary with accurate spelling and natural collocations, avoiding forced or incorrect lexical choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at more complex sentences often result in faulty grammar and awkward phrasing, such as 'Whereas, majority of the poeple involved in housework that consists of washing clothes... standing at 50 hours a week, that dropped to 10 hours per week'. Frequent errors occur in prepositions, articles, and clause structures, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must work on building well-formed complex sentences with accurate grammatical agreement, correct article usage, and proper punctuation without fragments or run-on structures.
