Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response sits at this level because it addresses the task only partially. Notably, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum once copied prompt words are excluded. While the writer attempts to report on the line graphs depicting appliance ownership and housework hours, the overview is confused and inaccurate, stating that 'the percentage of households are divided into three categories they are washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.' The selection of main features is weak, and much of the data description is vague, tangled, or misreported, such as claiming the refrigerator percentage was 'starting at 1920 to 2019 and it was increases'. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds the minimum, provide a clear, accurate opening overview, and select key trends with precise data support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Cohesion and logical progression are weak in this response, placing it at this band. Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, and the overall structure is disrupted by poor paragraphing and run-on sentences. There is a lack of clear cohesive devices, and referencing between sentences is frequently confusing or absent, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph where the writer lists appliances without logical connectors. Paragraph breaks are misused, splitting related ideas awkwardly across the text. To move up, the writer needs to group related data into logical paragraphs, use clear topic sentences, and employ cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', and 'subsequently' to guide the reader smoothly through the trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that frequently strain the reader's comprehension. The student attempts less common vocabulary and task-specific terms, but suffers from severe word-form and collocation errors, such as 'demonastrates', 'homeholds', 'gradully decline', and 'referigrator'. Spelling mistakes are also present throughout the text. While the topic is related to appliances and housework, the limited control over lexical items prevents precise communication of the graphical trends. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary related to data changes, ensure correct word forms (e.g., noun versus verb forms like 'increase' versus 'increases'), and carefully check spelling before submission.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is limited, featuring a very restricted range of sentence structures and frequent errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. The text contains numerous basic errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the percentage of households are divided', 'was going at gradully decline', and 'was starting at 1920 to 2019'. Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty, leading to broken syntax and run-on clauses without proper punctuation. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate control over simple sentences while incorporating accurate complex structures, pay close attention to tense consistency when describing past trends, and ensure accurate use of prepositions of time.
