Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph illustrates the percentage of household with electrical appliance between years 1920 and 2019
An overall analysis depicts that the use of refrigerator has seen a great boost but the use of washing machine doesn't stays stable between all these years and saw decline.
In 1920 use of refrigerator was zero but in 1940 it surges and reached the value of 55% and it till increases and reaches a value of 90% in 1960 and this value remain stable for rest of the years. However the use of vaccum cleaner was around 30% in 1920 but it rises to 60% in 1960 and this percentage further increases and reaches the value of 90% in 1980 and this remain stable and reaches the value of 100 in the remaining years till 2019.
Moreover the use of wasing machine doesn't increases and in 192 it was around 40% and this value increases to 70% in 1960 but this value decreases and falls to 65% in 1980 and this value reaches the value of 72% in 2019. Like refrigerator and vaccum cleaner that shows the clear trend of increasing washing machine was not showing that trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting on some of the appliance data from the charts, but it fails to cover all parts of the task. Crucially, the student completely omits the second chart regarding the number of hours spent doing housework per week, which is a major omission. Additionally, the selection of features is limited, and some descriptions of the trends are inaccurate, such as claiming that the use of washing machines 'doesn't stay stable... and saw decline' when the overall trajectory actually shows an increase from forty percent to seventy-five percent with minor fluctuations. The overview provided is very basic and contains inaccurate generalisations. To improve, the response must address all visual data provided in the prompt, ensure all data trends are read and reported correctly, and present a clear, comprehensive overview of the main features and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organisational structure with basic paragraphing, but it lacks clear overall progression and logical sequencing. The opening is presented as a single-sentence introduction and a separate isolated sentence, while the body paragraphs clump multiple appliance trends together without a smooth flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and sometimes inaccurate, relying heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or connectors such as 'however' placed repetitively at the start of sentences. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between the data points. To achieve a higher band, the writing needs to demonstrate a clearer logical progression from sentence to sentence, employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices without overusing them, and group related information into distinct, well-structured paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word formation, and spelling. The student relies on repetitive phrasing, such as 'use of', and attempts less common items with frequent inaccuracies, such as 'surges', 'vaccum' instead of 'vacuum', 'wasing' instead of 'washing', and awkward collocations like 'doesn't stays stable'. These lexical errors and misspellings occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary beyond basic descriptive words, learn correct word spellings and inflections, and use precise synonyms such as 'proportion', 'ownership', and 'percentage' rather than repeatedly using 'use of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical, featuring errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'appliance' instead of 'appliances', 'doesn't stays'), missing articles (e.g., 'in 1920 use of refrigerator'), and incorrect tense usage (e.g., mixing past events with present tense verbs like 'it till increases'). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences lacking appropriate commas or periods. To reach a higher band, the student must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with good control, eliminate frequent grammatical errors, and pay closer attention to articles, verb forms, and subject-verb agreement.
