Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a minimal attempt to address the task, but the information reported is largely confused, inaccurate, and incomplete. While the student attempts to mention some figures from the charts, such as the refrigerator reaching 90% and later 100%, many statements are incoherent, such as 'the profit trebled' and 'the individual use in a lots of refrigerator'. Crucially, the data regarding the number of hours of housework is entirely omitted from the report, meaning the second chart is completely ignored. Ideas are inadequately developed, and the lack of a clear overview or accurate reporting of main trends keeps the response at this minimum level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow due to broken sentence structures and an absence of logical linking between sentences and paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of each paragraph is disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic, such as jumping randomly between appliances and mixing up dates and percentages. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with connectors like 'to begin with' and 'in contrast' failing to establish meaningful relationships between the data points. Referencing is also unclear, making the overall arrangement hard to navigate.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and often inappropriate for an academic task, with frequent word-choice and collocation errors that severely strain the reader. Phrases like 'touch the sky', 'the profit trebled', and 'waching machine is fluctuation wre noticed' demonstrate a very limited control of lexical features. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as 'approximatley', 'incresed', 'demnad', 'waching', and 'th emost'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word form and meaning impede communication and prevent the response from achieving a higher rating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mainly of broken, fragmented attempts at sentences that are frequently ungrammatical. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the refrigerator stood at the approximatley 1920 is lower' and 'the washing machine demand is fall in 2019'. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic, with sentences starting with lowercase letters and missing terminal punctuation. These persistent errors distort the meaning in several places and cause significant difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
