Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, as the writing is incomplete and stops abruptly after the opening section and a few body paragraphs. While the writer attempts to report some main features from both charts, such as the trends for refrigerators and weekly housework hours, the information is presented in a limited and under-developed manner. Key comparisons between the appliances are vague or missing, and several data points are misread or poorly expressed, such as claiming a refrigerator had no availability in 1920 when the chart shows a low percentage, or stating '12019' for the final year. The lack of a fully realised overview and the fragmented presentation of data prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The essay is poorly paragraph-structured, beginning with an incomplete introduction followed by fragmented bodies of text. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or are absent altogether, leading to choppy transitions between sentences and ideas. For instance, moving abruptly from the appliance trends to the housework hours lacks a smooth linking phrase. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'The others two like washing machine and vacuum cleaner', which disrupts the logical flow and makes the connections between ideas difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic information. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'soared', 'presence', and 'constant', but these are often coupled with inaccurate word choices or awkward collocations, such as 'refrigerator had no availability' or 'vacuum clearner proportion climbed to its highest range'. There are also several spelling errors, including 'clearner' and repeated grammatical word-form slips like 'washing machine appliance'. While communication is not entirely blocked, the noticeable lexical errors and repetitive vocabulary keep the response at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing articles, and errors in prepositions and plurals, such as 'percentage of households with electrical appliance', 'numbers of hours of housework per week was 50', and 'between for two decade'. Attempts at complex sentences often result in structural breakdown, such as run-on sentences and punctuation slips. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted command of grammatical control.
