Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully cover all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear overview of the main trends and selecting key data from both the electrical appliance chart and the housework hours chart. You report that appliance ownership generally increased while housework hours declined significantly, supporting your statements with specific figures such as the 100 percent saturation for refrigerators and vacuum cleaners by 2000. While you provide a clear progression and address all visual elements, your response tends to over-generalise or misread a few specific details, such as stating that no homes had a refrigerator in 1920 when the chart indicates 2 percent, and confusing hours with percentages in your final sentence. To achieve a higher band, ensure greater precision when extracting numerical data from the charts and avoid slight inaccuracies in data reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to logically sequence information, starting with an introductory overview, moving into appliance ownership details, and finishing with housework hours. You make use of logical transitions like 'In 1920', 'By 1940', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader through the data. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing between sentences can be slightly confusing due to the dense clustering of clauses. Paragraphing is used adequately, but grouping related appliances more systematically would enhance the logical flow. To reach the next level, you need to employ cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing within and between paragraphs is consistently clear and unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, allowing you to discuss data trends using terms like 'grew', 'rose sharply', and 'downward spiral'. However, your writing is heavily impacted by frequent spelling errors, such as 'Th', 'iluustrts', 'mashine', 'refrigerantor', 'widespred', 'stabalized', 'clearner', 'thier', 'peroid', 'showen', 'useage', 'vaccium', 'trand', 'applainces', 'house work', and 'triughut'. You also make noticeable word choice and word form errors, such as using 'consumtion' instead of 'ownership' or 'adoption' in this context. These lexical and spelling deficiencies mean your vocabulary sits at a basic and limited level. To improve, you must expand your control of spelling, refine your choice of task-specific vocabulary, and reduce the frequency of lexical slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting multi-clause structures such as 'Overll, as the percentage of electric appliances... grew, number of hours work done in week doing household work fell significantly.' However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('None of the the home had refrigerator', 'vacuum cleaner and washing machine repectfuly'), subject-verb agreement issues ('number of appliances showen'), and prepositional errors ('put in house work'). Furthermore, punctuation and sentence boundary issues occasionally disrupt the reading flow. These persistent errors place your grammatical control at a lower band level. To progress, you need to reduce the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes and exercise better control over article usage and subject-verb agreement in complex sentences.
