Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count of 150 words, falling short at 149 words. Furthermore, the content suffers from major inaccuracies regarding the visual data. For instance, the text claims that in 2019 the graph shows 'no use of refrigerators', whereas the chart clearly indicates that refrigerator ownership remained at 100 percent from 1980 onwards. The student omits any reference to the second chart detailing the hours of housework per week. Consequently, the response addresses the task only partially and contains severe factual misinterpretations, leading to a very low band placement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text lacks proper paragraphing, presented mostly as a single block or disjointed single-sentence paragraphs, which disrupts the logical flow. While basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'respectively' are attempted, their over-use and misplacement ('However this usage has increased...') hinder clear progression. The overall arrangement is disjointed, and referencing between ideas is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of trends over time.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms like 'use', 'devices', and 'appliances'. There are noticeable spelling mistakes, such as 'betwwen', and awkward word choices or collocations, including 'house tasks' instead of 'housework' and 'households number'. Less common lexical items are rarely attempted, and inaccurate word choices—such as confusing appliance usage with non-usage in 2019—cause significant confusion for the reader, restricting the score to this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in tense consistency, articles, and prepositions. For example, the opening verb phrase 'is showing' should be simple present 'shows', and missing articles lead to ungrammatical phrasing like 'in households number'. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors persist throughout the text, although they do not entirely obscure the basic meaning.
