Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features of the charts while missing others and containing inaccuracies. For instance, the writer states that the refrigerator trend started with a negligible trend in 1920 and reached 100% in 1980, which mixes up the data series from the visual. While an overview is attempted at the end, it is vague and mentions that the 'interest of the people declined sharply per weak', which misinterprets the housework hours trend. To move up, the response needs to select and accurately report all major trends without confusing the data sets, and provide a clearer, more accurate summary of the overall patterns shown in the graphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response shows some organisation with paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting paragraphs with 'To commence with' and 'According to another line graph', which feels mechanical. Paragraphing is also somewhat erratic, with the second body paragraph containing a jumble of mixed details about different appliances and trends lumped together. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which appliance is being discussed. To improve, the student should ensure logical sequencing where each paragraph focuses clearly on a distinct trend or chart, using appropriate and varied cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation that cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'occured', 'owernshiph', 'appliances', 'houseworks', 'courage' (used instead of coverage), 'clearner', 'Neglible', 'suddendownfall', 'owenship', and 'weak'. These errors demonstrate a weak control of spelling and collocations. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct spelling for common task-related terms like ownership and appliances, and use appropriate vocabulary to describe data changes precisely without distorting meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent mistakes in articles ('the courage of washing machine'), verb forms ('was declined'), plurals ('all appliance'), prepositions ('from 1920 to 2000 and then it remained similar till 2019'), and punctuation (erratic spacing around full stops and commas). Attempts at complex sentence forms are often faulty or awkward. To improve, the writer needs to increase control over basic grammatical structures, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and article usage, and work on reducing frequent errors in tense and sentence construction.
