Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both charts and making relevant comparisons, which is a key requirement at this level. You successfully identified trends such as the steady rise in washing machine ownership and the dramatic increase in refrigerator and vacuum cleaner ownership to one hundred percent, alongside the declining hours spent on housework. However, some parts of the response are more fully developed than others. For instance, the descriptions of the individual appliance trends contain some inaccuracies or under-developed analysis, such as misinterpreting the starting point of the refrigerator or omitting key details about the fluctuations. Providing a more precise overview of the broader trends would have elevated the task response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically by discussing appliances in the first body paragraph and housework hours in the second. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the visual data. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Transition words and phrases like 'As per the first line chart', 'However', 'In contrast', and 'Furthermore' are used, but referencing and logical flow between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, particularly in the conclusion where sentences are very brief and disconnected. Improving the transitions between your main points and ensuring smoother progression would enhance the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, successfully attempting less common and functional terms such as 'proportion', 'significantly rose', and 'remained stable'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'wasahing' instead of 'washing', 'refrigirator' instead of 'refrigerator', and awkward phrasing like 'worker had worked for 50 hours for housework'. While these lexical slips do not completely impede communication, they reflect some limitations in vocabulary control and spelling accuracy. To reach higher bands, you need to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like past tense descriptions with time markers and subordinate clauses introduced by 'before' and 'while'. There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including tense choice and article usage, such as 'proportion of wasahing machine' missing a plural or noun head, 'before slightly declined' where a participle or subject is needed, and 'overall, the proportion of refrigerator initially low' lacking a main verb. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended data points. Developing better control over complex sentence construction and verb forms is essential for further improvement.
