Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two charts and report the broad relationship: appliance ownership generally increased while housework hours fell. You also include relevant figures, such as washing machines at about 40% in 1920, refrigerators at 55% in 1940, and housework declining from 50 hours to about 10–11 in 2019. However, the coverage is partial: the appliance trends are not traced through to 2019, and the overview does not highlight that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reached 100%, while washing-machine ownership fluctuated slightly. The claim that washing machines were higher than every other appliance in 1920 is inaccurate, since vacuum cleaners were at 30% and refrigerators at about 2%, so this comparison is correct, but the later refrigerator comparison is not fully supported by the figures given. Include the main endpoints and notable changes for all series.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each chart, and a concluding comparison. This makes the information easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moving on” and “According to the charts” help signal progression. However, the organisation is somewhat mechanical, and the appliance paragraph moves from the initial comparison to refrigerators without systematically comparing the series across the period. Some linking is also awkward or unclear, as in “In after years” and “As according to graph.” A more effective progression would give a concise overview first, then group the appliance trends and housework trend, using clear comparisons between key years rather than relying mainly on sequential transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “declined,” and “reduced,” and the reader can generally understand the intended trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Mutations in ownership” is not a natural way to describe changes in appliance ownership, while “quantity of time” and “share in electrical appliances” are imprecise in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “dojng,” “waching,” “refigerator,” and “incresing,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language such as “the percentage of households owning,” “rose steadily,” and “the number of hours spent on housework.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “houseworks,” which is not the usual form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and most of the main comparisons remain understandable. However, there are some recurring problems with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The given charts illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, and “The percentage of washing machine was about 40” is missing an appropriate article and uses an incomplete noun phrase. “In after years” and “As according to graph” also show faulty grammatical patterns. The sentence beginning “as proportion of electrical appliances increases” needs an article and a clearer relationship between the trends. Use a wider range of accurately controlled structures, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation around introductory phrases.
