Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the general topic and attempts an overview, but it does not accurately summarise the main trends. The claim that refrigerators had the lowest ownership initially is correct, but the statement that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners had the highest ownership later overlooks that both reached 100%, while washing-machine ownership remained lower. Several figures and dates are misreported: vacuum-cleaner ownership rose from about 30% to 40% by 1970, although the chart gives 70% in 1960 and no 1970 point; the washing-machine trend is also described inaccurately. The housework-hours series is not reported at all. The response is incomplete and contains only 128 words, below the required 150. Select the key trends across both charts and support them with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening, an overview, and paragraphs introduced by phrases such as “Commencing from” and “Moving towards.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the discussion shifts between appliances, years, and ownership figures without a clear grouping or consistent comparison. The final sentence is cut off at “about 90% of communities hold t,” leaving an idea unfinished and disrupting the overall flow. Some linking expressions, including “Moreover,” “Although,” and “Furthermore,” are used, but they do not always show a clear logical relationship between the points. Group the appliance trends together, then cover housework hours, and use links that accurately signal contrast or addition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response attempts a range of vocabulary, including “depicts,” “ownership,” “inhabitants,” and “escalate,” but many choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing chart data. Phrases such as “changes in authority of electrical appliances,” “holds the higher control on ownership,” and “individuals hold proprietorship” make the meaning harder to understand; use direct terms such as “appliance ownership” and “households owned.” There are also noticeable spelling errors in “refrigrator” and “vaccum,” and “inclined” is not an appropriate way to describe a rising figure. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the broad subject, but greater precision and more natural collocations are needed. Prefer simple, accurate trend language over elaborate wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Although, in the year 1960…” and “which gets increase…,” but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement is faulty in “refrigerator holds” when referring to the plural appliances, and verb forms are incorrect in “which gets increase” and “which gets inclined.” The sentence beginning “Although” is not completed as a subordinate clause, while the final sentence is unfinished, so the reader cannot follow the intended meaning reliably. Articles and phrasing are also awkward in “in one nation” and “in the beginning.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentence structures, such as “ownership rose from…to…” and “hours spent on housework fell.”
