Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a limited attempt to describe the topic, mentioning refrigerators and a general increase in their ownership. However, it does not summarise the main features of both charts: the near-universal ownership of refrigerators and vacuum cleaners by the end, the less consistent washing-machine trend, and the substantial fall in weekly housework hours are all omitted. The claim that refrigerator ownership was “zero” at the start also does not match the chart, which shows approximately 2%. The response is far below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, include an overview of the key trends and select accurate comparisons from both graphs, supported by figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic sequence from the opening reference to 1920 to a later change in refrigerator ownership, so the reader can identify the limited topic being discussed. However, the response has no clear overview or paragraph structure, and it does not organise information across the two charts. The transition “but later the time passes” is awkward and does not clearly connect a specific period or figure to the claim that follows. The title-like first line also does not function as a developed introduction. A clearer structure would use an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a paragraph comparing appliance ownership with housework hours, using time references to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant topic words, including “electrical appliances,” “refrigerators,” and “houses,” which makes its general subject understandable. However, the vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “the use of refrigerators in houses increases on large number” does not clearly express the rise in the percentage of households owning them. There are also spelling errors in “refigrators” and “starting.” Use precise chart language such as “households owned,” “ownership rose,” and “reached 100%,” and vary the wording when describing trends. This would make the report more accurate and appropriate to an academic summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a longer sentence with a contrast, but its grammatical control is uneven. In “the use of electrical appliances take place,” the verb does not agree with the singular subject, and the construction is not suitable for describing chart data. “The use of refigrators were zero” also has subject–verb disagreement, while “but later the time passes” shifts awkwardly into the present tense. Spacing around punctuation is inconsistent, as in “1920 ,” and “.The.” Most of the writing relies on simple structures, with little accurate variety. Practise concise past-tense reporting patterns, for example, “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980.”
