Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two charts provided convey information about the ownership of electrical appliances in households, and the number of hours spent doing household chores per week of a country between 1920 and 2019.
The first line graph represents the percentages of households acquiring washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner from 1920 to 2019. Earlier, till 1920, only few houses owned a refrigerator, but later, after 1920, the numbers grew steadily, from around 5% to 100%, in 2000. In the case of vacuum cleaners, over the years, significant rise in the percentages of houses owning one was witnessed, reaching a peak in 2000 at 100%, remaining stable till 2019.
The number of houses equipped with a washing machine increased substantially, from 40% to 70%, until 1960, followed by a drop in 1980, but grew back later, reaching approximately 75% in 2019. Over the period of nearly a century, the number of hours utilised performing housework per weekb reduced from 50 hours to just 10 hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also report several relevant figures, including washing-machine ownership at 40% initially and about 75% in 2019. However, coverage is uneven and the overview is incomplete: the final sentence, “To conclude, over the years, the ownership grew significantly in al…”, is unfinished and does not summarise the main comparisons. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920, not around 5%, and the chart shows it reaching 100% by 1980, rather than 2000. The vacuum-cleaner trend is described, but its starting point is omitted. Give a complete overview and select the key milestones more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable sequence: an introduction, discussion of appliance trends, and a concluding attempt. Paragraphing helps separate the opening from the data description, and phrases such as “In the case of” and “Over the period” signal shifts between topics. However, the organisation is not fully effective because the second paragraph combines refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner information without a clear comparison, while the housework figure is added to the washing-machine paragraph. The unfinished final sentence also disrupts the progression and leaves the response without a usable conclusion. Group the three appliance trends together, then describe the decline in housework time, and finish with a complete overview. Use comparisons to connect related trends rather than relying mainly on topic shifts.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentages,” “increased substantially,” “remaining stable,” and “reduced.” These choices make the main trends understandable, and there is some attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “increased.” However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise: “houses acquiring washing machine” does not naturally describe household ownership, and “hours utilised performing housework” is an unnatural collocation. “Only few houses” also needs a more natural quantifier. The unfinished phrase “ownership grew significantly in al…” further limits clarity. Prefer precise chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “time spent on housework,” and check that each phrase is complete and idiomatic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You show a mix of sentence forms, including complex structures such as “Earlier, till 1920, only few houses owned a refrigerator, but later…” and the washing-machine sentence with “followed by a drop…”. Most of the meaning remains clear, which reflects reasonable control of grammar. Some errors and awkward constructions remain. For example, “the percentages of households acquiring washing machine” has an incorrect article and an unsuitable grammatical pattern; “only few houses” should use a determiner such as “a few”; and “per weekb reduced” contains an apparent typing or punctuation error. The final sentence is also grammatically incomplete. Continue using varied structures, but proofread articles, sentence completion, and punctuation so that the more complex sentences remain accurate.
