Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both charts and identify the main contrast: appliance ownership generally rose while housework time fell. Several key figures are reported accurately, including washing machines at 40% in 1920, refrigerators at 90% in 1960, and refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators were owned by about 2% of households in 1920, not none, and the final paragraph says housework time “increas[ed]” even though it declined from 50 to about 11 hours. The overview is relevant, but the housework trend is not clearly summarised there, and the final comparison with appliance ownership is incomplete. A clearer overview and a consistent account of the second chart would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing the data. The chronological sequence also helps readers follow changes from 1920 to 2019. However, progression becomes unclear in the final two paragraphs: the 1980 and 2000 refrigerator figures are repeated, and the last paragraph shifts abruptly to housework without a clear transition. Linking phrases such as “By 1980” and “In contrast” are useful, but some connections are mechanical or incomplete, as in “In 1980, the refrigerator ownership is 100% . while…” Consider grouping the appliance trends together and giving the housework figures their own focused paragraph, with clear comparisons across the period.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership,” “eventually becoming almost universal,” “climbed sharply” and “decreased dramatically.” These choices show an effort to describe trends rather than simply list figures. However, spelling errors are frequent and sometimes make the text difficult to read, for example “vaccum,” “aplicance,” “Refrigrated” and “substanial.” There are also inaccurate or unnatural combinations such as “the figure … slightly” and “ownership … reachin.” Use standard trend collocations consistently, such as “the proportion rose,” “reached 100%” and “fell steadily.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise nouns for each appliance would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some varied sentence forms, including a contrastive overview (“In contrast…”) and a participial phrase (“being found in 40%…”). However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, tense and punctuation sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “The charts illustrates,” “washing machine has risen 60%,” and “The washing machines is reached recoverd genually 75%.” The final paragraph also contains an incomplete or malformed sentence: “The substanial with increasig availability…” Aim for complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and past-tense reporting. For example: “Ownership of washing machines rose to 60% by 1940.”
