The line chart graph illustrates the changes in household ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework per week in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover all four series and identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell. However, the report is only partially developed because several key comparisons and figures are inaccurate or unclear. For example, vacuum-cleaner ownership was about 50%, not 40%, in 1940, and washing-machine ownership did not simply remain at the same level after 1960: it dipped slightly in 1980 before rising again. The housework figure was about 11 hours in 2019, rather than 10, and the refrigerator reached 100% by 1980. Add a distinct overview highlighting these main contrasts, and report the trends more precisely rather than describing appliance ownership as “sales.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a generally understandable order, moving from refrigerators to vacuum cleaners, washing machines and then housework. The opening also makes the topic clear. However, the information is presented as one continuous block, with no clear overview or paragraphing to distinguish the main trends from supporting details. Connections between figures are often repetitive, especially the repeated use of “In [year]” and “that was reached to.” Some references, such as “sales stood almost there,” are difficult to interpret. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview and focused detail paragraphs, and use clearer comparisons such as “by contrast” or “while” to show how the series relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “household ownership,” “electrical appliances,” “gradually” and “per week,” so the reader can follow the subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Sales” is not appropriate for a chart showing the percentage of households that own appliances; “ownership” or “the proportion of households with” is more precise. Phrases such as “highly buying item” and “sales stood almost there” are unnatural and obscure the intended meaning. Repeated use of “reached” also limits variety. Aim for accurate trend language and collocations, for example “rose to,” “remained stable at” and “levelled off.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences communicate a basic trend, and you attempt to link information using clauses such as “that was reached to 60 percent.” However, the range is limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction occur frequently. For example, “Refrigerator was highly buying item” lacks an article and has an incorrect structure, while “the sales of refrigerator was increased” has agreement and passive-form problems. “In 1980 to 2000” also uses an unsuitable preposition for a time span. These patterns make some sentences awkward to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, articles and subject–verb agreement, and vary sentence structures while keeping each comparison grammatically complete.
