Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two subjects and report several appliance figures, including washing-machine ownership rising from 40% to 75% and refrigerators reaching full ownership by the later years. However, the response has no clear overview of the main trends, and some key figures are inaccurate or missing: refrigerator ownership was 2% in 1920, not 0%, and rose to 90% in 1960 and 100% in 1980; vacuum-cleaner ownership was 70%, not 60%, in 1960. The housework series is substantially misinterpreted as appliance use, with hours described as percentages and several values incorrect. The response therefore reports selected details but only minimally fulfils the task. Add a concise overview and accurately compare the broad rise in appliance ownership with the fall in housework time.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response is divided into sections for each appliance and for housework, so the reader can identify which series you are discussing. The chronological order within most sections also gives some basic organisation. However, the numbered headings and repeated year-by-year sentences make the report read like separate notes rather than a connected summary. There is no overview paragraph to establish the main comparisons, and transitions such as “In 1960” and “In 1980” do most of the linking mechanically. The final section is especially difficult to follow because it shifts from hours of housework to “electric appliances.” Group the information into a clear introduction, overview, and comparison-based detail paragraphs, using accurate references such as “this figure” or “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “popular,” “increased,” and “decreased,” and name the three appliances. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “used” appearing frequently and several phrases not expressing the chart data accurately, such as “people used of washing machine” and “the used of refrigerator.” There are also spelling errors in key terms, including “appliences,” “refegreator,” and “vacume,” which make the report less clear. “Vacuum tube” is not the appliance shown; the chart labels it “vacuum cleaner.” Build a more precise vocabulary for describing data, such as “households owned,” “the proportion rose,” and “housework hours fell,” and check spelling of chart labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
You attempt to report changes across several years, but sentence structures are very limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes obscuring the intended meaning. For example, “In 1960 incresed 10 percent and 70 percent people used washing machine” lacks a clear subject and has an awkward clause structure. Articles and plurals are often missing or inconsistent, as in “in household” and “three different electric appliance.” Tense and agreement are also unreliable, while commas are used to join long sequences of clauses without clear sentence boundaries. Practise forming complete comparison sentences with a subject and verb, for example, “Ownership rose to 70% in 1960,” and use full stops to separate each main point. This will make the data easier to understand.
