Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided charts illustrate the changes in ownership of electrical appliances such as washing machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country in a period of time between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, between 1920 and 2019, the ownership of vacuum cleaners and refrigerators saw a significant rise reaching an equal percentage of ownership in households with 100% in the period between 1980 and 2019. On the other hand, the percentage of ownership of washing machines rose modestly between 1920 and 2019, jumping from 40% to 70%.
To begin with, the number of hours per week of housework which consists of washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning saw a slight drop between 1920 and 2019, falling from 50 hours per week down to only 10 hours.
Meanwhile, it is noted with the increase of ownership perecentage of modern technology such as washing machines, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners, the number hours of housework per week in a single household decreases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall contrast: appliance ownership generally increased while housework time fell, and you correctly note that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners eventually reached full household coverage. This supports a clear overview and shows good selection of key trends. However, some details are inaccurate or too broad: washing-machine ownership rose from 40% to about 75%, not 70%, and the decline in housework was substantial rather than slight (from 50 to about 11 hours). The statement that both appliances were at 100% from 1980 is also imprecise: vacuum cleaners reached 100% by 2000, while refrigerators did so by 1980. The response addresses both charts, but fuller, more accurate comparisons across the years would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate comments on housework and the relationship between the trends. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “Meanwhile” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, the body is brief and does not develop a clear chronological comparison of the appliance data; the final paragraph largely repeats the overview rather than adding specific evidence. Some connections are also awkward, particularly “Meanwhile, it is noted with the increase…,” which makes the relationship between the ideas less clear. To improve progression, group the appliance trends together, compare their key milestones, and then relate these to the decline in housework.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “significant rise,” “modestly,” and “percentage,” and the main meaning remains clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and collocations. “Jumping” is less appropriate for a gradual change over the full period, while “a slight drop” understates the marked reduction in housework. The phrase “modern technology” is broad for these specific appliances, and “ownership percentage” is less natural than “proportion of households owning.” There is also a spelling error in “perecentage.” Aim for precise trend language and natural collocations, especially when describing the scale and timing of changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the overview sentence beginning “On the other hand” and the relative clause “which consists of washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning.” Most sentences are understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions remain. For example, “the number hours of housework” is missing “of,” and “it is noted with the increase” does not form a clear grammatical relationship. In “the ownership of vacuum cleaners and refrigerators saw a significant rise reaching…,” the participial phrase is awkwardly attached and the time reference is unclear. Check articles and sentence patterns, and make sure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More consistently controlled complex sentences would improve accuracy.
