Student answer (Band 6.0)

The rendered line graph depicts the information about the changes in possession of electric equipments and number of hours spent doing housework in households sector in one nation between 1920 and 2019.

Overall, it is clear that the highest percentage of households electrical devices such as refrigrator and vaccum cleaner from 1920 to 2019 and the percentage of the washing machine were lower than other two devices over the given period. But the number of hours per week , per housholds figure showed a gradual decline over the period.

To begin with, it is clear that figure for electrical devices such as washing machine increased considerably from 40 percent to 70 percent in 1920 to 1960 but in 1980, its growth slow down little from 70 to 61 percent in this period. Therefore, from 1980 to 2019 the figure increased from 61 to 71 percent respectively. Moreover, the another electrical appliances like refrigrator and vacuum cleaner, both grow steadly refrigrator satrting growth from 0 percent in 1920 and ending to 100 percent in 2000 that are similar with vacuum cleaner and it was starting from 30 percent in 1920 and ending in 2019 with 100 percent .

Furthermore, In 1920, the household chores took 50 hours weekly, which dropped sharply to under 20 hours by 1960. The decline then slowed down steadly decreasing from 12 hours in 1980 to a low of about 7 hours per week in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework declined. You also compare the three appliances and include figures for several years. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and the washing-machine figure was about 65% in 1980 rather than 61%. The housework figure was about 15 hours in 1980 and 11 in 2019, not 12 and 7. The overview’s claim that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners were the highest throughout is also misleading, since washing machines were more common than refrigerators in 1920 and 1940. The response covers both charts, but some comparisons and data are less fully and accurately reported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final paragraph on housework. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal progression. Some linking is less effective, however. “Therefore” does not clearly express the relationship between the washing-machine figures, while “Moreover” introduces a comparison that becomes difficult to follow in the long sentence about refrigerators and vacuum cleaners. References such as “its growth” and “both” could be clearer. To strengthen the progression further, group the appliance trends by their key similarities and differences, and use shorter sentences when comparing several figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “gradual decline,” “dropped sharply” and “increased considerably.” These choices communicate the main trends, and the response attempts more specific language for describing change. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “possession of electric equipments” is unnatural, “households sector” is unclear, and “the highest percentage of households electrical devices” does not express the intended comparison accurately. There are also repeated misspellings, including “refrigrator,” “vaccum” and “steadly.” Use standard terms such as “ownership” and “appliances,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise trend vocabulary would also help distinguish a rise, a fall and a plateau.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “which” and time contrasts such as “from 1980 to 2019.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the percentage of the washing machine were lower” has an agreement and sentence-structure problem, while “the another electrical appliances” has an article and number error. In “its growth slow down,” the verb form is incorrect, and several long sentences lack clear punctuation, particularly the comparison beginning “Moreover.” Aim for complete, well-controlled sentences, check subject–verb agreement and articles, and use commas or full stops to separate comparisons. This will preserve your range while making the data easier to follow.
