Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response recognises that appliance ownership changed over time and mentions the refrigerator’s rise, but it does not adequately summarise the charts. It focuses on a speculative explanation that refrigerators were not introduced because of late invention, which the data do not establish, and it confuses appliance ownership percentages with time, describing 40% ownership as “40 minutes.” The housework-hours series is not reported at all, and there is no clear overview comparing the main trends—for example, refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership reaching 100%, while housework fell from 50 to 11 hours weekly. The account is therefore only minimally responsive and includes unsupported claims. Select the key trends from both charts, report accurate comparisons, and avoid explanations not shown by the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic chronological direction, beginning with 1920 and moving towards 2019, and linking words such as “However” and “Moreover” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, with no clear introduction, overview, or organised detail. The sequence of points is difficult to follow: the washing-machine and vacuum-cleaner figures are followed by repeated statements about refrigerators, while the housework chart is omitted. Some transitions do not express a clear contrast or relationship, and the final sentence is hard to interpret. Organise the response into distinct paragraphs—introduction, overview, and selected details—and use comparisons to guide the reader through both charts.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts a range of descriptive language, including “dramatic,” “widely used,” and “crucial part,” but vocabulary is often inaccurate or unnatural for describing chart data. Phrases such as “deeply visualizes the in-deep research,” “time utilization highest,” and “a dramatic amount of time spent … utilizing their washing machines” obscure the intended meaning. Several appliance names are misspelled, including “refridgerator,” “refidgerator,” and “refridgeraor,” and “daily lide” also contains a spelling error. Use precise chart vocabulary such as “the proportion of households owning” and “hours of housework per week.” Avoid claims about popularity or everyday importance unless the figures directly support them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to form longer sentences using clauses and linking words, but control is inconsistent. The opening phrase “Starting from 1920s where seen” lacks a clear subject and a correctly formed verb, while “there is seen a rose” has an incorrect construction. Tense and sentence structure also become difficult to follow in “people were not introduced to refrigerator … but there is seen a rose from 1920 and onwards.” Missing or misplaced punctuation, including the run-together “onwards. Moreover,” further affects readability. Some basic meaning can be inferred, but errors in sentence formation frequently make relationships unclear. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use straightforward past-tense reporting, such as “Ownership rose from … to …”.
