Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5
The response identifies the general topic and attempts an overview, but it does not adequately summarise the charts. It mentions vacuum cleaners and refrigerators, yet gives no meaningful account of the housework-hours trend and does not compare the appliance figures across the period. The claim that vacuum-cleaner ownership was the highest from 2000 to 2019 is only partly accurate: it reached 100%, but refrigerators also stood at 100% in those years. The washing-machine trend is not reported, and “worth nothing” does not communicate a relevant feature. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words: it contains 63 words, with 18 prompt words excluded. Include a clear overview and selected, accurate comparisons for both graphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then an overview marked by “Overall” and “Another striking feature.” This gives the reader a simple sense of structure. However, the response ends after two short paragraphs and has no developed sequence of details or comparisons, so progression is very limited. The link between the two overview statements is also unclear, and the sentence beginning “while” is separated by a full stop and begins with a lowercase letter. To improve, use a clear introduction, a concise overview, and separate detail paragraphs that group appliance trends and housework hours, using straightforward links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “electrical appliances,” “percentage,” and “striking feature,” and the general subject is understandable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “percentage of vacuum cleaner” does not describe the proportion of households owning one, “during the use of electricity” is unclear, and “worth nothing” does not express a meaningful chart feature. “Spending of time during housework” is also an awkward way to describe the hours spent on housework. These imprecisions make the limited information harder to interpret. Use precise chart language such as “the proportion of households with a vacuum cleaner” and “weekly hours spent on housework,” and choose verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable” to report trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a complex opening sentence and uses an overview marker, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “The given line graphs illustrates,” the plural subject requires “illustrate”; “percentage of vacuum cleaner … is the highest” lacks a clear grammatical construction; and “refrigerator with 100% from 1980 and 2000” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. The lowercase “while” after a full stop also shows a punctuation and sentence-boundary problem. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to follow. Practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, for example, “Refrigerator ownership reached 100% in 1980 and remained at that level thereafter.” Check agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
