Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the general subject and mentions several years, but it does not provide a clear, accurate overview of the main trends. The housework-hours series is omitted entirely, despite being a major feature of the task, and the final statement that “both are same percentage” does not specify which appliances or their values. Several figures or comparisons are inaccurate: the refrigerator was about 2%, not 0%, in 1920; vacuum-cleaner ownership rose to 70% by 1960, but this is not clearly reported; and washing-machine ownership did not fall by 30% in 2000. The response therefore selects and reports only a limited portion of the data, with important information missing. Include both charts and summarise their contrasting overall trends before giving key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the report, using an opening, “Overall,” and sequencing markers such as “Firstly,” “After that,” and “Finally.” These help signal movement through the years, and the response broadly follows a chronological order. However, the overview does not actually summarise the main trends, and the body’s progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are incomplete or unclear—for example, “the refrigerator greater than and the vacuum at the same as it washing machine.” The second paragraph also jumps between years without consistently explaining what is being compared. Group the appliance trends into clear comparisons, add the housework data, and use linking phrases to show relationships rather than simply mark sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “increased,” “decrease,” and “households,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “graph chart,” “electronics appliances,” “used 40 percent,” and “washing machine percentage decrease.” Spelling errors—including “elctronics,” “apliances,” “percenatge,” and “vacum”—also reduce precision. Some expressions, such as “huge at 50%” and “little bit dcreased,” are informal or imprecise for an academic report. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…” and choose precise verbs like “rose,” “fell,” or “remained stable.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can sometimes infer the intended comparisons. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with errors in sentence structure, articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “in the 1920 washing machine was used 40 percent” lacks a clear subject construction, while “both are same percentage” is missing an article and does not form a complete, precise comparison. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, vacum aso increase in 1960” also combines ideas without a clear grammatical relationship. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, including the full stop separated from “2019” and “fall.Finally.” Build accurate sentences around a clear subject and verb, and check articles, past-tense forms, and sentence boundaries.
