Student answer (Band 6.0)

The charts below illustrate the number of people owning electrical gadgets and the time period spent on performing household chores in various homes in a country from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, the most stricking feauture here is the surge in the ownership of refrigerator from 1920 to 2019, accompined by the vaccum cleaner moderatly, whereas ownership of washine machine is at the last. Intrestingly, because of purchasing electrical appliances a gradual fall in the number of working hours in every household is seen.

At a fleeting glance, the charts reveals that the ownership of refrigerator accounts the highest soar amongst all the appliances ranging from almost zero percantage in 1920 to climbing up at 100% in 2019. Moreover, the purchasing pattern of vaccum cleaner throughout the given time line has a rise of 20% in every two decades from 1920 till 2019 Suprisingly, there has been a gradual increase in the onwership of washing machine from 1920 to 2019. In 1920 the share of washing machine has held at only 40% increased by almost 30% more in 1960. A dramatic drop of sales happened in 1980 falling from 70% 2 decades past to being at about 60% followed by a rise of almost about three quarters significantly.

Further analysis of the grap demonstrates the drop in the number of housewrok followed in every house from 1920 - 2019. In 1920 50 hours per week were for house chores in per household but due to the numbers of electrical appliances escalating in every household the number of working house droped rapidly. Till 1960 there was a manageable decline of hours from 50 to 20 hours per week but intrestingly, the numbers fall rapidly after 1960 and it almost touched to 10 hours only in a week dedicated for housework in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: appliance ownership generally rises while weekly housework falls. Several key comparisons are also included, such as refrigerators rising from almost zero to 100% and housework declining from 50 to about 11 hours. This gives the response a solid account of the main trends. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear: vacuum-cleaner ownership does not rise by 20% every two decades, and the washing-machine figure in 1980 is about 65%, not 60%; its later level is about 75%, rather than an unspecified “three quarters” after a confusing description of sales. The claim that appliance purchases caused the decline is also not established by the charts. More precise reporting and a clearer account of the washing-machine fluctuations would strengthen coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, separate discussion of appliance ownership, and a final paragraph on housework. The broad progression from the overall trends to individual figures is easy to follow. However, some linking and referencing are awkward or mechanical, and this occasionally obscures the sequence of information. For example, “A dramatic drop of sales happened in 1980” is followed by “falling from 70% 2 decades past,” making the timing and comparison difficult to track. The overview also groups the appliance trends in a way that is not fully clear. Use shorter, more direct comparisons and organise the appliance details consistently—for example, describe the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner first, then the washing machine—so the reader can follow each series without rereading.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary suited to describing trends, including “surge,” “gradual increase,” “dramatic drop,” and “decline.” These choices show an effort to avoid basic repetition. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning unclear. “Number of people owning electrical gadgets” misrepresents the chart, which shows the percentage of households with appliances; “time period spent” is also not the same as hours spent. Phrases such as “ownership … is at the last,” “accounts the highest soar,” and “a manageable decline” are not natural in this context. Frequent misspellings, including “stricking,” “feauture,” and “vaccum,” further weaken control. Prefer precise chart language such as “household ownership,” “accounted for,” and “fell steadily,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some variety in sentence forms, including complex clauses with “whereas,” “because,” and “but,” and the main trends can generally be understood. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction recur, and several longer sentences become difficult to follow. For instance, “the charts reveals” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the ownership of refrigerator accounts the highest soar” lacks a natural grammatical pattern. The washing-machine sentence beginning “A dramatic drop of sales happened” combines several time references without a clear structure. Improve control by checking singular and plural subjects, using consistent past-tense reporting, and separating multiple comparisons into shorter sentences. A more reliable pattern is: “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980, where it remained.”
