Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both graphs and provide a clear overview: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also select useful comparisons, including refrigerators reaching full household coverage and vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000. Most reported figures are close to the chart, but the opening year is written as “120” rather than 1920, and the refrigerator starts at about 2%, not 0%. The housework figure is about 15 hours in 1980 and 11 in 2019, rather than roughly 8 and 10. The overview also overstates fluctuation in vacuum-cleaner ownership; its trend is consistently upward. More precise reporting of these details, alongside the useful broad trends already identified, would make the account more complete and accurate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing appliance ownership and housework. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “Despite some fluctuation between 1980-2000” and “experiencing at 10 hours,” which make the sequence of changes harder to follow. The appliance paragraph also moves between series without consistently grouping or comparing them. To strengthen progression, organise the appliance trends in a clear order and use linking phrases only where they accurately describe the relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “remained stable,” “significantly,” and “declined,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal trend language, such as “hiked” and “recovered,” but these are not always appropriate for describing the data: “hiked” is informal, while “recovered” suggests a prior fall that is not clearly shown. Several collocations and word forms are inaccurate, including “the proportion of Refrigerator,” “electric usage,” and “some fluctuated.” These choices limit precision even when the intended trend can be inferred. Aim for natural chart-description phrases such as “the percentage of households owning…” and “rose to,” and distinguish carefully between a rise, a fall, and a fluctuation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “whereas” and “despite,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors recur in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and agreement. For example, “people had spent number of hours… was considerably declined” combines incompatible structures; “the figure shown number of hours” is also incomplete, and “it noticeable declined” lacks the required adverb form. The sentence beginning “Vacuum cleaner represented at 30%… it hiked…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. Practise building complete clauses with accurate subjects and verbs, and check articles and verb forms. More reliable control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
