Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad trends: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework fell. However, the account is partial and several details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the refrigerator figure was about 2% in 1920, not 0%, and it reached 100% by 1980, not between 1960 and 1970. The washing-machine trend is broadly described, but the overview’s phrase “the spike of household” does not clearly state what increased. The response also contains only 145 words, below the required 150. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview and select accurate comparisons, such as refrigerators reaching full ownership before vacuum cleaners and housework dropping from 50 to about 11 hours.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some paragraphing, and the response moves from early figures to later trends and then an overall statement. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the first paragraph combines several 1920 figures with the housework trend, while later paragraphs repeat appliance increases without a clear comparison. Linking is limited and sometimes awkward, as in “But later was started to decreasing” and “but the washing machine was higher figure.” The final overview also repeats earlier information rather than summarising the main relationships precisely. Organise the report into an introduction, a concise overview, and paragraphs comparing appliance ownership and housework, using clear references such as “by contrast” and “whereas” to show relationships.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent imprecise expressions that make some comparisons difficult to understand. Phrases such as “the figure … was go higher,” “the most high value,” and “the spike of household” do not express the intended trends naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “vaccum clearner,” “housholds,” and “decreasd.” Some task-relevant terms are present, such as “percentage,” “refrigerator,” and “hours of housework,” but the response needs more accurate language for describing change and ownership. Practise collocations such as “the proportion of households owning,” “rose steadily,” “fell slightly,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on simple statements, and frequent errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the Percentage … were 40%” has faulty agreement, while “But later was started to decreasing” lacks a clear subject and uses an incorrect verb form. “The figure … was go higher” and “the washing machine was higher figure” also show problems forming clauses. Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and capitalisation is inconsistent. Build accuracy first with clear comparative structures, for example, “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980,” then practise combining clauses with “while” or “whereas.”
