Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The first line graph illustrates changes in percentage of households in electrical appliances between 1920 and 2019. The second graph demonstrates the number of hours of house work per week in per household.
Overall, the proportion of owning electrical appliances were increased over the years in the graph. The refrigerator was at the highest level.
In 1920, 40% of households used washing machines. In the years 1940 and 1960 this proportion was increased to 60% and 70% respectively. In the last year 2019, 72% of people used washing machines. There was a dramatic change in the used of refrigerator. In 1920, it started from 0%. After 20 years it raised up to 52%.
In 1980 and 2019 it goes to 100% which was the highest figure in the proportion. In 1920, the use of the vacum cleaner was 30%. Over the years it increased to 100%. The used of electrical appliances of hours per week decresed over the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two graphs and give a broad overview that appliance ownership generally rose while housework time fell. You also report several relevant figures, including washing-machine ownership at 40% in 1920 and 70% in 1960, and vacuum-cleaner ownership rising from 30% to 100%. However, coverage is partial: the housework trend is not supported with any figures, and the refrigerator account stops after 1940 despite its rise to 100% by 1980. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and the statement that it reached 100% in both 1980 and 2019 is not clearly linked to the appliance. Include key endpoints and the main plateau or dip to make the summary more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing appliance trends. This gives the reader some organisation, and time markers such as “In 1920” and “Over the years” help indicate sequence. However, progression is limited because the appliance details are not grouped consistently, and the housework graph is reduced to a final, unsupported sentence. Connections between ideas are sometimes unclear; for example, “In 1980 and 2019 it goes to 100%” does not specify which appliance “it” refers to. The overview also repeats general trends rather than setting up the comparisons that follow. Use separate, clearly focused paragraphs for appliance ownership and housework, and make references explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “dramatic change,” “increased,” and “highest figure,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “percentage of households in electrical appliances,” “the used of refrigerator,” and “the use of the vacum cleaner.” “The used of electrical appliances of hours per week” also confuses appliance ownership with housework time. Spelling errors such as “vacum” and “decresed” are noticeable. Aim for precise collocations used in data reporting, such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “hours spent on housework,” and vary verbs for upward, downward, and stable trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on short, simple sentences, with limited evidence of varied or controlled complex structures. Errors occur frequently in verb forms and agreement: “the proportion … were increased” should be “the proportion … increased,” while “it raised up” needs a suitable intransitive form such as “it rose.” There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “in percentage of households in electrical appliances” and “in per household.” The final sentence, “The used of electrical appliances of hours per week decresed,” is difficult to interpret because its grammatical relationships are unclear. These errors sometimes make the data description harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense trend sentences and use a clear subject for each figure or trend.
