Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given line chart illustrates the changed proportions of the people owning different electrical appliances such as washing machine, refrigrator and vaccum cleaner during 1920 to 2019. Other chart shows the number of hours of housework such as washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning completed by each household during the same period of time.
Overall, ownership of refrigrator has a rapid increase starting in 1920 to all the way until 1980 and after, onwership remains the same unitl 2019. Additionally, as per shown in the chart, there is gradual increase in ownership of vaccum cleaner throughout the year from 1920 to 2000 and then it remains at the same level. On the other hand, washing machine remained fewer owned by people as compare to other appliances. Other chart shows the constant decrease in the hours of household work throughout the years.
Proportion of refrigrator's ownership rapidly increased upto 90% until year 1960, then gradual increase reached to 100% in 1980 and remained on the same proportions after until 2019. Vaccum cleaner had highest proportion of ownership by 30% in 1920 and had rapidly increased by 100% by 2000 and then remained same as refrigrator. Washing machine ownership had highest proportion of 40% in 1920, remained same as other appliances in 1940 and after 1960 there is slightly decrease by below 60%. Washing machines been less owned as compare to other appliances.
Other chart demonstrates the rapid decline in hours of work. There is 50 hours of work per household in 1920 which decreased to around 15 hours in 70 years and then further decrease to 10 hours per household in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and give a relevant overview: appliance ownership generally rose, while housework hours fell. Several key figures are reported accurately, including refrigerators reaching 100% in 1980 and vacuum cleaners reaching full ownership by 2000. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. Washing-machine ownership did not remain the same as other appliances in 1940: it was about 60%, compared with 55% for refrigerators and 50% for vacuum cleaners. The claim that it fell below 60% after 1960 also misses its later recovery to 75% by 2019. The overview would be stronger if it highlighted the washing machine’s slight fluctuation and the sharpest decline in housework, from 50 to 11 hours, rather than describing the decline only as constant.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the appliance data and housework hours. This makes the main direction of change easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Additionally,” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships, although some are used mechanically or do not introduce a precise contrast. The appliance paragraph also repeats the point that washing machines were less widely owned, while the sequence of figures is not always easy to track. For example, the sentence about ownership being “the same as other appliances” in 1940 is unclear. Grouping the appliance trends more systematically and using clearer references to years and series would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “ownership,” “rapid increase,” and “decline,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, several spelling errors—“refrigrator,” “vaccum,” and “onwership”—reduce accuracy, and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “remained fewer owned by people” and “highest proportion of ownership by 30%.” Repetition of “remained” and “increased” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate collocations commonly used to describe data, such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “levelled off,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish a rise, a fall, a fluctuation, and a stable period.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including “Overall, ownership… has a rapid increase…” and sentences linked with “while” and “then.” The main trends remain understandable, but some grammatical errors make individual statements awkward or unclear. For example, “Washing machines been less owned” is missing an auxiliary verb, and “as compare to” is not a correct comparative construction. Tense and sentence structure are also inconsistent in phrases such as “there is slightly decrease” and “had rapidly increased by 100%.” Use past-tense reporting consistently and check articles, verb forms, and comparative structures. More accurate control of these patterns would make your range of sentence forms clearer.
