Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrates the changes in the number of electrical appliances and amount of time took to perform housework in households in one country between the time period from 1920 and 2019.
Overall, distinct electrical tools are demonstrated. like washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner. All increased with the passage time where refrigerator starts from zero and ends with the top same as vacuum cleaner where there are relatively less changes took place in washing machine. Moreover, number of housework per week decreases from start to end with a less number of housework per household.
To begin with electrical appliances, in 1920 percentage of refrigerator was equal to zero. Then it rapidly increases to 55% and 90% forwards 1940 and 1960 respectively. After that, it reached to 100% in 1960 and then remain the same for the rest of years. Percentage of vacuum cleaner, were 30% in 1920, afterwards, equal number of percent increases reached to 90% in 1980. followed by further rise to 100% percent in the last all years. Furthermore, washing machine had shown ups and down trend, starting with 40% in 1920 climbed to 60% in 1940, 70% in 1960 and then decreased to 62% for the next 20 years. in the last 40 years again slightly enhanced to 72%.
Number of hours per week had drastically decreases from 50 hours per week to 10 hours per week in the same period of time. it starts from 50 hours per week in 1920 and dramatically decreased to 35% and 20% in 1940 and 1960 respectively. followed by a slight changes to 15% percent in 1980 and then remain persistent until 2000, in the last 20 years it further drops to 10percent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: appliance ownership generally rises, while weekly housework time falls, and you compare the three appliances across the period. Several figures are also reported accurately, including the vacuum cleaner’s rise from 30% to 100% and the decline in housework from 50 to about 10 hours. However, some details are inaccurate: refrigerator ownership begins at about 2%, not zero, and reaches 100% in 1980, not 1960. The washing-machine figure is about 65% in 1980 and 75% in 2019, rather than 62% and 72%. Also, saying all appliances increased overlooks the washing machine’s temporary decline. A more precise overview and careful checking of key turning points would make the report more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership and a final paragraph on housework hours. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and sequencing expressions such as “Then,” “After that” and “Furthermore” help show changes over time. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, and punctuation sometimes interrupts the flow—for example, “Overall, distinct electrical tools are demonstrated. like…” and the sentence beginning “followed by further rise” is not properly connected to the preceding idea. The overview also combines several comparisons in a confusing way. Use complete, clearly linked sentences and organise the appliance details in a more consistent sequence to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “rapidly increases,” “decreased,” “slight changes” and “persistent.” These choices make the main movements understandable. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for chart reporting, such as “distinct electrical tools are demonstrated,” “same as vacuum cleaner,” and “equal number of percent increases.” There is also repetition of “increases” and “decreased,” while phrases such as “number of housework” do not express the intended measure accurately. Aim for standard collocations such as “the proportion of households owning…” and “hours spent on housework.” More precise vocabulary and fewer awkward combinations would make the description clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including time clauses and comparisons, and the reader can generally follow the intended trends. However, grammatical control is uneven, particularly in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. Examples include “amount of time took to perform housework,” “washing machine, were 30%,” and “Number of hours per week had drastically decreases.” Some sentences are fragments, such as “followed by further rise to 100%,” and inconsistent punctuation and capitalisation also affect accuracy. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and correctly inflected verb—for example, “The number of hours fell…”—and check agreement and tense throughout. Greater accuracy in these basic patterns would make your varied sentence attempts more effective.
