Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the broad topics and mention several relevant figures, including washing machines at about 40% initially and vacuum cleaners reaching 100%. However, the overview is inaccurate and incomplete: refrigerators reached 100% by 1980, not 90% in 2000, and the response does not clearly summarise the main contrast between appliance ownership rising and housework time falling. The account of housework is especially misleading: it began at 50 hours, declined to 15 by 1980, stayed level until 2000, then fell to about 11 in 2019; it did not remain constant throughout. Some appliance descriptions also conflict, such as washing machines rising to 73% in one place but 90% in another. Select the key trends accurately and compare the series in a clear overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview-like statement and later details about appliances and housework. Linking expressions such as “Whereas,” “Similarly” and “Additionally” show an effort to connect information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is not clearly separated from the details, and the sequence of years and figures is often unclear. For example, “in the same year 1920 to 2019” does not establish a clear comparison, while “subsequently” introduces the housework chart without a logical transition. Group the appliance trends together, then describe the hours trend, and use time markers consistently so readers can follow changes across the period.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refrigerator,” “vacuum cleaner,” “remained stable” and “hours per week,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make the meaning awkward. “The percentage of time which wasted” does not describe the chart correctly, and “owning of technological appliances” is an unnatural way to refer to household ownership. Repetition of “started,” “rose” and “same period of time” also limits precision. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion of households with” and “the number of hours spent on housework,” and choose verbs that accurately distinguish increases, decreases and plateaus.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few longer sentences and use basic time clauses, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Examples include “the the percentage,” “1920and 2019,” and “it stable with the constant value,” where articles, spacing and verb forms are problematic. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in the opening sentence and the long appliance descriptions. The response relies heavily on simple clauses and does not show reliable control of more varied structures. Practise forming accurate comparisons with patterns such as “rose from X to Y,” and check that each clause has a clear subject and correctly formed verb before adding linking phrases.
