Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify the broad patterns: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell. Several key figures are reported accurately, including vacuum-cleaner ownership at 30% in 1920 and refrigerator ownership reaching 100% by 1980. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerator ownership was about 2%, not 0%, in 1920; vacuum-cleaner ownership reached 90% in 1980 and 100% in 2000, rather than increasing by 10% by 1980 and then remaining stable. The housework figure rose neither in 1940 nor by 15%; it fell from 50 to 35 hours. Your overview is relevant but could compare the appliances more precisely, especially the refrigerator’s early rise and the washing machine’s slight fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about appliance ownership, and a final paragraph about housework. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal progression. The organisation is coherent, though some connections are mechanical or do not accurately express the relationship between figures. For example, “after 20 years till 1980” makes the timeline difficult to follow, and “Furthermore” introduces a further trend without adding a clear contrast or development. Grouping the appliance trends more systematically and using precise time references would make the progression smoother and cohesion less dependent on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “decreased,” “reached,” and “stable,” so the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated or inaccurate expressions such as “inclined” for rising figures and “contain washing machine” for household ownership. Some word choices and spelling errors also reduce clarity, including “icreased,” “continuesly,” and “rised.” Use standard chart language consistently, and distinguish percentage points from percentages when describing changes. More precise nouns such as “households” and “ownership” would also help avoid the awkward phrase “population had” and make the report sound more appropriate for an academic data summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. For instance, “The line chart illustrate the how much percent” has subject–verb agreement and clause-formation problems, while “washing machines and refrigerator are hold” uses an incorrect passive form and mismatched number. In “Ownership of refrigerator 0% in 1920,” the sentence lacks a finite verb. Work on complete clauses, consistent past-tense reporting, and singular/plural agreement. A few carefully controlled complex sentences would improve grammatical range without sacrificing clarity.
