Student answer (Band 6.0)

The charts provide information about the household electrical appliances and the time spent on housework from the 1920 to 2019. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that refrigerator use was drastically increased during this time duration and washing machine use was maximum in 1920 and after that slightly increased. In addition the using time of these devices decreased with the passage of time.

To begin with, the refrigerator was just under 10% in 1920 after that soared and reached 90% on 1960 after continous increased it was at 100% in 1980 and remained stable throughout the time period. Moreover, the vaccum cleaner use was at 30% in 1920 which was moving up steadily with the passage of time reached to 70% in 1960 and then this achieved 100% in 2000 and remained same. In contrast, washing machine was at 40% in 1920 which was fluctuated during this time interval and slightly above the 70% in 2019.

On the other side, the time spent on housework in a week was 50 hours in 1920 after that time was decreasing steadily throughout the time period and reached 20 hours in 1960. Futhermore, the continous dropped of time spent on house chores reached approximately 10 hours in 2019,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall patterns: refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership rose, while weekly housework time fell. Several key figures are also reported accurately, including refrigerators reaching 100% by 1980 and vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000. However, the overview misstates washing-machine ownership: it was not highest in 1920, and it dipped around 1980 before rising to about 75% in 2019. The claim that “the using time of these devices decreased” is also inaccurate; the falling series is housework hours, not appliance use. The housework description gives the broad decline but omits the plateau at about 15 hours from 1980 to 2000. A more precise overview and clearer separation of the two measures would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by appliance details and then housework figures. This makes the main categories easy to locate, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “In contrast” help signal comparisons. However, the overview combines appliance ownership with housework time in a confusing way, particularly in “the using time of these devices decreased.” Some linking phrases are mechanical or imprecise, such as “On the other side,” and the final paragraph ends abruptly after the 2019 figure. Grouping the appliance trends more clearly and completing the housework paragraph with its 1980–2000 plateau would improve progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “soared,” “remained stable,” “fluctuated,” and “decreasing steadily,” which helps describe changes rather than merely list figures. Some less natural choices and spelling errors reduce precision, however. “Refrigerator use” and “washing machine use” are less exact than “household ownership of refrigerators” and “washing machines.” Phrases such as “the using time of these devices” and “this achieved 100%” are awkward, while “continous,” “vaccum,” and “Futhermore” are misspelled. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent terms for ownership and housework hours; this will make the vocabulary more precise while retaining the useful range already attempted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “which” and time expressions such as “after that,” so there is some structural variety. Some grammatical errors remain, especially in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “was drastically increased” is an awkward passive form for this trend, and “after continous increased it was at 100%” lacks a correctly formed clause. The opening phrase “from the 1920 to 2019” also has an unnecessary article, and “reached to 70%” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Several long sentences would be clearer if divided or punctuated more carefully. Review past-tense trend descriptions and clause structure to improve accuracy.
