Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you include a few relevant figures, such as refrigerator ownership being almost zero in 1920 and reaching 100% by 1980. However, the response only partially reports the chart: it gives little accurate detail about the vacuum cleaner or washing-machine trends, and the claim that washing-machine ownership rose to “70+” misses the final value of about 75%. The housework figure for 2019 is not clearly stated, and the overview repeats the same general point rather than selecting key comparisons. The response is also 131 words, below the required 150; this limits the detail available to summarise the data. Develop the main trends with clear, accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, an overview and further description, and the reader can identify the central contrast between appliance ownership and housework hours. However, progression is weak: the third paragraph jumps between refrigerator ownership and housework time, while the final paragraph largely repeats the overview. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “After all” do not create clear relationships between the details, and some references are difficult to follow, for example “household used 50 in 1920.” Group the appliance trends together, then describe the housework figures, and use clear comparisons to connect each point. This would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “electrical appliances,” “reduction” and “hours per week,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate expressions make the report less clear. “Sustanable increases” and “sustable decrease” appear to mean a steady increase or decrease, while “is rose increases” combines incompatible forms. There are also spelling errors in “Refrigrator,” “appliciances” and “durinh.” Use precise trend language and check spelling and word forms; for example, describe ownership as “rose steadily” and housework time as “declined substantially.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt an overview and some longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors often make the relationships between figures unclear. Examples include “Refrigerator is sustanable increases,” “vacuum cleaner is rose increases,” and “the ownership … is increases,” where verb forms and sentence structure are faulty. Articles and number agreement are also problematic in “Refrigrator used in 1920,” and the sentence about 2019 housework hours is incomplete and confusing. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with limited accurate use of complex structures. Practise forming clear past-tense comparisons, such as “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980,” and check punctuation and spacing.
