Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad contrast that appliance ownership increased while time spent on housework fell, and you note that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reached full household coverage by 2019. However, the report only partially selects and describes the chart’s main features. The claim that washing machines were the “highest demand” appliance in 1920 is inaccurate: ownership was about 40%, compared with 30% for vacuum cleaners, while refrigerators were lowest at about 2%. Washing machines also did not become the least-used appliance in 2019; they reached about 75%, whereas the other two were at 100%. Include a clearer overview and support it with accurate comparisons across the period, including the washing-machine dip around 1980.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and an overview, followed by further comments on appliances and housework. The broad movement from appliance ownership to housework is relevant, but the ideas are not arranged coherently enough: the appliance comparisons are repeated, and the discussion shifts between years without a clear sequence. Connectors such as “So” and “but” do not always clarify how the points relate, while the opening sentence is difficult to follow. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview, appliance trends, and housework trend, then present the years in a consistent order. Clearer referencing would also prevent confusion about which appliance is being compared.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “demand,” “household,” “appliances,” and “housework,” and you try to describe change with phrases such as “highest” and “become.” However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning unclear. “Demand” is not the best term for the chart, which shows household ownership; “the list appliance” appears to mean “least,” and “electrical tools” is imprecise. There are also repeated forms such as “household thing” and “house cleaning.” Use accurate chart language and vary verbs for trends, for example “ownership rose,” “reached,” and “remained stable.” Check spelling carefully, especially for key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts longer sentences and uses some time references, but sentence structures are limited and errors are frequent enough to make several statements difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall, We see that the highest demand in 2019 is of…” has an awkward clause structure, and “it become the list appliance to use” has problems with verb form and sentence construction. Agreement and articles are also inconsistent, as in “people are prefering” and “the 100 percentage of households.” Punctuation and capitalisation need attention, including the capital letter after “Overall” and the run-on sentence beginning “So, we can see…”. Practise accurate simple comparisons before combining them into longer sentences.
