Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad trends: appliance ownership generally rose, while time spent on housework fell, and you include several relevant figures. However, the task is only partly covered because the housework trend is mentioned in the overview but not described with any supporting data or comparisons. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: the refrigerator starts at about 2%, not simply “unpopular,” and the chart shows it at 90% in 1960, rather than describing a rise to 90% after that point. “Freezer” is not one of the appliances shown. The overview also incorrectly says washing machines were the most popular at the start; they were, but refrigerators became the most popular later. Cover both charts and report the main stages more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable introduction, overview and detail paragraph, and the sequence from 1920 onward gives the appliance information a basic chronological order. Linking expressions such as “In contrast” and “Similarly” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, progression is incomplete: the housework series is not developed after being introduced, and the final sentence ends without a clear concluding detail. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “Whereas” at the start of a sentence and “After that” when the timing of the refrigerator figures is uncertain. Organise the body into clearer comparisons, and use one paragraph for appliance ownership and another for housework hours, with each paragraph following a consistent timeline.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “fluctuated,” “declined” and “reached a peak,” which helps communicate trends. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to interpret: “electrical gadegt,” “vac uume,” “oer,” and “Similary.” “Freezer” is also an inaccurate label for refrigerator, while “house chores” and “hours to do house chores” are less suitable than standard report phrasing. Some combinations are unnatural, such as “washing machine highest in the start” and “reached at 90%.” Aim for precise chart terms and accurate collocations; this will make your comparisons clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure with “while” and a sentence beginning “In contrast.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are incomplete or faulty. For example, “washing machine highest in the start” lacks a finite verb, while “Whereas, refrigerator was unpopular” is an incorrectly attached subordinate clause and is missing an article. “In 1940, both washing machine and vacuum rose by 20%, where freezer saw…” also has faulty clause connection and agreement. Articles, plurals and verb forms need more reliable control. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check that each comparison is grammatically connected rather than joined with a comma or an unsuitable linker.
