Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You provide an overview of the main broad trends: appliance ownership generally increased, while weekly housework hours fell. You also include several relevant figures, such as washing machines at 40% in 1920 and 70% in 1960, and housework at 50 hours initially and 20 in 1960. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators began at about 2%, not 0%, and reached 100% in 1980, rather than merely reaching a peak without stating the value. Vacuum cleaner ownership rose steadily to 100% by 2000 and remained there in 2019; saying it fluctuated in 1980 and only exceeded 70% in 2019 misses this pattern. The overview could also compare the appliances more precisely, including which reached saturation first.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about appliances and a final paragraph about housework. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information. Some linking is effective, including “Overall” and “On the other hand,” but the appliance paragraph becomes difficult to follow because several trends are packed into long sentences and transitions such as “therefore” do not always show a clear relationship. For example, the washing-machine sentence moves from 1960 to 1980 and 2000 without clearly separating the slight fall and subsequent recovery. Use shorter sentences and group comparisons more deliberately, while making references such as “their peak” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “increased,” “decline,” “peak” and “low point,” so the main trends can be understood. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated use of “touch” and “percentage” and several inaccurate or misspelled forms, such as “fluctulate,” “remain constant” used where a clearer trend description is needed, and “Vaccum.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “stand on 40%” and “fall down to 20 hours.” These choices sometimes make the description less precise, even when the intended meaning is recoverable. Build a more varied set of accurate trend verbs and collocations, such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “levelled off” and “fell to,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while” and “after that,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “Vacuum cleaner and Refrigerator grew” needs plural agreement and more suitable phrasing, while “number of housework per week decline” has an incorrect noun construction and verb form. In “Washing machine was stand on 40%,” the verb pattern is faulty. Punctuation also needs attention: several sentences run together, as in the final appliance description, and spaces after full stops are missing. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and use shorter, well-controlled sentences alongside complex ones.
