Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the two measures and give a broad overview of rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, which is relevant to the task. However, the response is only a partial summary: it stops while describing refrigerator ownership and does not report the later trends or the housework figures. The opening figures are also not fully accurate: the refrigerator was about 2%, rather than 5%, in 1920, and the sentence saying it “start[s] from 0%” conflicts with that figure. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the main comparisons and key stages undeveloped. To improve, complete the summary with the major changes across the period and compare the appliances with the decline in weekly housework.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt at organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph, so the reader can recognise the intended structure. The overview also signals the two broad trends. However, progression is limited because the response ends mid-sentence at “suddenly,” and the detail paragraph does not develop into a complete account. Connections between ideas are sparse, and the overview’s compressed list of trends is difficult to follow. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the main data, and connect comparisons with clear sequencing such as “by 1960” and “in contrast.” Ensure each sentence is finished before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership rates,” “appliances,” and “declined,” and these choices show an attempt to describe trends rather than simply list labels. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “significantlyover,” “eperienced,” “prevelence,” and “Refigerator.” The phrase “the amount of time declined to domestic chores” is also an unclear collocation. Aim for accurate, natural expressions such as “the time spent on housework fell” and “the most prevalent appliance.” Proofread carefully, and use a wider set of trend verbs and comparison phrases to report the missing data precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both a complex overview sentence and simpler statements about the figures, but control is inconsistent. For example, “the ownership rates … are increased” uses an incorrect verb form, while “washing machine were” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also contains an extra full stop, and missing spaces after “1920” and before “significantly” disrupt readability. The unfinished final clause prevents the reader from seeing a complete grammatical structure. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of the period, check singular and plural subjects, and use complete sentences with consistent punctuation. A few well-controlled comparisons would demonstrate a broader range more effectively.
