Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the three appliances and report several broad trends, including the refrigerator’s rise to full ownership and the decline in housework time. However, the response omits the housework series entirely, despite its prominent place in the task, and gives no overall comparison between appliance ownership and time spent on chores. Some figures and dates are also inaccurate: the refrigerator rose from about 2% in 1920 to 55% in 1940, not from 0% to 55% by 1924; it reached 100% by 1980. The washing-machine fall from 1960 to 1980 is about five percentage points, not ten. The response is 142 words, eight short of the 150-word minimum. Cover all series, give a clear overview, and check key values against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview-like paragraph about refrigerators, then comments on vacuum cleaners and washing machines. This gives the reader some sense of the chart’s categories, and transitions such as “Overall” and “However” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, there is no clear, balanced progression through the information: the housework data is absent, and the appliance descriptions are presented as separate fragments rather than organised comparisons. Several connectors are inaccurate or repetitive, including “Furthermore” and “In contrast,” which does not clearly establish the comparison intended. Use a concise overview followed by two logically grouped paragraphs, and connect comparisons explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “plateau,” “steady,” and “increase,” so the reader can recognise that you are describing trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate enough to make parts difficult to interpret: “housechores,” “remain escalate,” “more accumulate,” and “futher it was rose” do not express the intended trends naturally. Spelling errors such as “housholds,” “Futhermore,” and “apporximental” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate, conventional trend language rather than forcing less familiar expressions: for example, say that a figure “rose,” “fell,” or “remained stable.” Check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some longer sentences and use past-tense reporting, but most sentence patterns are simple, and errors are frequent enough to interrupt the flow. Examples include “The charts illustrates,” where the plural subject needs a plural verb, and “its remain escalate,” which has an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “washing machine was started” also has an awkward passive construction, while “in 1920 to 1924” uses an incorrect time relationship. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent punctuation further affect readability. Practise accurate past-tense clauses and comparisons, such as “Refrigerator ownership rose from about 2% in 1920 to 55% in 1940,” and separate each complete sentence with correct punctuation.
