Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you mention several relevant figures. However, some data are misreported: refrigerators rose from about 2% in 1920, not 0%, and reached 100% by 1980, not 1930; the washing-machine figure is also described as ending at 65%, although it was about 75% in 2019. The overview is present but the account is limited and does not clearly compare the appliances’ different patterns, such as the refrigerator reaching full ownership earlier than the vacuum cleaner. The response also contains 134 words, below the required 150, so the task is only partially covered. Add accurate key stages and a fuller comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and further details, so the reader can recognise the main topic and broad trends. However, progression is weak because the appliance details are compressed into one confusing sentence, and the housework figures are then presented in a long, repetitive sentence. Linking words such as “whereas” and “however” are used, but sometimes do not express a clear contrast; for example, “whereas refrigerator shows a modest rise” is difficult to connect to the preceding claim. Group the appliance trends together in a clear order, then describe housework, using shorter sentences and precise references to each series.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “significantly increased,” “modest rise,” and “substantially declined,” which gives you a workable range for describing trends. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “average use of washing machine” does not clearly describe the proportion of households owning one, and “number of hours … has been decreased” is not a natural trend expression. Capitalisation of “Refrigerator” is also inconsistent, and “tp” is a spelling error. Use precise terms such as “the proportion of households with a refrigerator” and “housework hours fell,” and avoid repeating “modest rise” when comparing different appliances.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses joined with “whereas” and “while,” but control is inconsistent. Errors include missing articles in “ownership of Refrigerator,” incorrect verb construction in “has been decreased,” and agreement problems in “washing machine shows” after the plural subject “ownership of Refrigerator and Vacuum cleaner.” The sentence beginning “However, number of hours…” also lacks a clear grammatical structure, while punctuation and spacing around commas are uneven. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and article use, and build comparisons with complete, parallel clauses, for example: “Refrigerator ownership rose…, while washing-machine ownership increased….”
